Dear Friend,

If you have been involved in an auto accident, you have a lot of things to think about and there are some things you absolutely need to know.

Did you know one of the most stressful aspects of modern life is dealing with the problems that arise after an auto accident?

Were you also aware that some auto accident injuries are hidden and seldom detected for months or even years?

Worse than that, most auto accident victims are unaware of the damaging effects of hidden injuries, so they release the insurance company from liability by settling before getting evaluated by a doctor trained in soft tissue injuries.  That's a gigantic mistake!

Why? Because a lot of auto accident victims receive inappropriate care from either the hospital, medical doctor or physical therapy clinic.  Then, while the underlying damage and pain is hidden or "covered up" with medication, they settle their case.  - Mistake number two!

Because if you do settle your case, you may start to experience pain, numbness, headaches, muscle stiffness, fatigue, and other problems including arthritis months to years down the road.

Remember, nothing is more important than your health once you start to lose it.

Here's where the problem begins...Most people who suffer from an auto accident have one thing on their mind:  Their Automobile!
Common questions include:
"Who is going to fix my car?"    "What will I drive in the mean time?"

"Will my insurance rates go up?"    "Who is going to pay for it?"
….And the last thing on their mind is:   "Am I Really O.K.?"

Not only are auto accidents an inconvenience and a hassle, a common general complaint of auto accident victims is that they don't feel their normal self.

You may be experiencing obvious pains and symptoms like muscle stiffness or spasm, neck pain, headaches, numbness and tingling, back pain, difficulty sleeping, irritability, memory loss, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and many other problems.

Or Worse Than That, You May Be Injured - And Feel Nothing At All For Days to Weeks!

Either way, did you know that auto accidents can cause post traumatic osteoarthritis?  Osteoarthritis can ruin your posture (giving

you a slumped or hump back appearance).

If you have been in an auto accident, you need a doctor that is trained in the biomechanics of the human body; someone who treats these injuries every day. That’s what we do at my offices; in fact we successfully treat hundreds of whiplash injuries every year.

That means that as part of my Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program the doctor can perform special orthopedic and neurological tests as well as other functional tests that can assess soft tissue damage, muscle strength, range of motion, and joint and nerve function.

In addition, X-Rays can be taken to find out if there has been any structural damage.  Surface EMG’S can be performed to check for muscle hyper-tonicity.

My offices have been treating Auto Accident patients for over 11 years throughout southern West Virginia.  We have treated literally thousands of auto accident victims just like you.  Over these years, I have developed the Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program. This program was specifically developed to give you the best chance of recovery.  My offices are staffed with the friendliest people you could ever meet who are all trained in handling the sometimes confusing paperwork that needs to be filled out to make sure that...

Your rights are protected and your injuries are properly documented.

We evaluate and treat auto accident victims, and make any appropriate referrals to other health care providers if needed.  This includes orthopedic doctors, neurologists, physical therapists, massage therapists, and MRI centers.

Our Primary Responsibility is Seeing That You have the Best Chance of a Full Recovery.  That Means We Work With Competent Local Doctors Who Understand Whiplash Injuries.

With offices in Beckley, Princeton and Oceana we have made it extremely convenient to come to our auto injury centers.

If you have been in an auto accident recently, there are some important decisions you have to make, and these decisions should be made very carefully:

Q: Should I See An Attorney Before I See Dr.Chipley?
A:
It is important to get checked out by the doctor first, that way the findings from your exam will allow you the information you need in order to decide if an attorney is necessary. If necessary, we can refer you to a reputable and qualified attorney.

Q: What If My Car Sustained Only Minor Damage?
A:
Documented studies done by Universities, Engineers, and allied health care professionals including Medical Doctors clearly show that in collisions under 20 mph the amount of damage to the automobile bears little relation to the force applied to the cervical spine (neck) of the occupants.  In fact, 60 percent of the injuries in low speed collision occur at speeds of less than 12 mph.  Injuries can occur in speeds as low as 3 to 5 miles per hour.  Most modern vehicles show little to no damage in impacts up to speeds of 8 to 12 mph.  In other words, the damage to the passengers is not directly related to the damage to the vehicle.

Q: If I Need Treatment For This Injury, Do I Have To Pay For It Myself?
A:
No, only in very rare circumstances does the patient pay for their care. Our office provides care “on credit” when patients are represented by an attorney.  Also, many car insurance policies have what is called “Med Pay.”  This means that your medical bills will be paid at 100% up to a certain limit.  My office manager can assist you in obtaining this information. Using your med pay will not raise your rates.

Q: The Insurance Company Has Been Calling Me And Wants To Settle, What Should I Do?
A:
Do not sign or settle until you have had us evaluate your injury for you.  If you settle before your injury is fully resolved, you will be responsible for further treatment costs, not the insurance company.

Q: I’ve Been To The Hospital And My Medical Doctor, Do I Really Need to go for an evaluation at Chipley Chiropractic?
A:
You need to be evaluated by a doctor that focuses on the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident injuries. Chipley Chiropractic is specialized in Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation.  Dr. Chipley is certified in Automobile Crash Reconstruction and he’s even written the book on whiplash, Secrets of Whiplash Injuries Revealed.  Usually hospitals will check vital signs, and release the patient with pain relief medication. They are concerned with life and death – not your pain and injuries.  They normally do not treat the underlying improper musculo-skeletal biomechanics that can and often do lead to future pain.

If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills do not correct structural or soft tissue damage.  Our Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program is designed for that, and we offer this in our Beckley, Princeton, and Oceana offices.

Q: I do hurt but using over-the-counter medicine like Tylenol and Advil takes the edge off.  It will probably go away eventually.  In the mean time, isn’t using the over-the-counter medicine good enough treatment?
A:
Research clearly shows that if you take medicines like Ibuprophen (Advil) for greater then 2 months, you have a 1 in 1,200 chance of dying due to stomach and intestinal complications.  High repeated doses of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can lead to liver damage and massive single doses can lead to fatal liver disease.  8 to 10% of the 50,000 annual kidney failures in the U.S. annually are caused by acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Q: Does Your Care Hurt?
A:
Absolutely not.  The care is very gentle and quite soothing.  Most patients can hardly wait to get their care.  In the beginning, obviously the more sore you are, the more difficult it is for you to move.  We will tailor our care based on your unique case to offer the quickest recovery possible with as little pain as possible.

Q: Is The Care safe?
A:
Yes, extremely. Particularly when compared to the side effects from prescription and over-the-counter medications, injections, or surgery.

Q: What’s so special about Chipley Chiropractic’s Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program?
A:
The keystone of our treatment is the Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program. This is a program designed over the past ten-years by Dr. Chipley that blends chiropractic care, physical therapy, rehabilitative exercise and nutrition.  The goal of this program is two-fold.  Obviously, you come through our door for pain relief, and that is one of our goals.  The other important goal is to get you well so the pain doesn’t come back a few months down the road.  Your average visit at our office should take less than thirty minutes.  During that time we will work to stretch out the area of injury.  We will work to restore motion to the injured area; we will get you started in some rehabilitative exercises, and we will use therapies such as ice, heat, electric stimulation, traction, and more.

Q: Why am I injured?
A:
At the time of the accident, your body received an unexpected jolt of four forces.  The 4 forces that cause you to be injured are: 1.) Compression of the spine; 2.) Tension on the joints, muscles, ligaments, discs, and bones; 3.) Coupled with Shearing, and 4.) Rotational forces. These four forces lead to Spinal Instability and Spinal Nerve Damage.

If You’re Still Not Convinced That Dr. Chipley’s Whiplash Injury Rehabilitation Program Might Be Right For You, Read What Our Past Patients Are Saying...

“I was having severe low back pain that I could not hardly walk across a room.  Within a month, Dr. Chipley had me to where I could function again.  After three months of treatment, I was back to normal enjoying life again.”

       Bebe Lester

“If it wasn’t for my chiropractor there would be times I could have not walked.  With his care I was on a speedy recovery and back to work.”

       Melissa Sanger

“They make me feel very welcomed by greeting me every time I come in. They take the time to see what is bothering me before he even starts my therapy.  The environment in this office is very pleasant.”

       Angela Asbury

“Dr. Chipley and staff has helped me a great deal.  Their treatment helps me immensely.  Without their treatment I have a terrible time.”

       Walter W. Vest

“I came to Dr. Chipley’s office after being involved in a car accident.  The pain in my neck and shoulders was unbearable.  I was on strong painkillers but I didn’t like the way they made me feel.  After the treatment at this office, I am feeling much better.  Now I am off all of my medications.  I am walking more often and feeling more healthy.  It was a rewarding experience.”

       Judy Lilly

“I started coming here after a back injury at work.  The drugs only masked my symptoms.  I could barely walk when I started here and was in considerable pain.  With chiropractic manipulation and therapy I began to see significant improvement.  My limp is gone and I can go up and down stairs easily now.  I am back to work, mowing grass, and painting now.  I hope to never be injured again, but if I do I will come to Dr. Chipley first!”

       Diane Dixon

“The pain in my neck and low back has been so unbearable at times I wish I could zip myself out of this body, reach in the closet and put on a new one.  I know the relief and restful nights it’s given me just after an adjustment.  Dr. Chipley is simply the most well educated chiropractor I have ever been acquainted with.”

       Gloria Vass

“He has kept my body working for the last 4 years when drugs had failed.  For this I will always be eternally grateful.”

       Mary M. Graham

“Normally, one trip a month to Dr. Chipley, along with a few exercises, keeps me in pretty good shape.”

       Elizabeth Hodges

“Because of the treatment I receive from Dr. Chipley, I’m able to decide what activities I want to do instead of allowing my back pain to control my life.”

       Ron Sauls

“After my accident I went months with severe headaches that lasted all day every day.  A family member recommended Dr. Chipley and after several treatments I started feeling better.  Chiropractic care is better and less expensive than pills and treatment by an M.D.”

       Angela Adkins

“After a car wreck Dr. Chipley has taken great care of me! I have been able to get back to a pretty normal life.  I have and will continue to tell people of the great work done here.”

       Angela Bostic

“I have been coming to Dr. Chipley and Dr. McMillen for 2 years.  Both doctors listen to your problems and give me relief from back pain that occurs off and on.  Thanks for the help I receive from this office.”

       Bruce Brown

“Dr. Chipley’s offices offer wonderful rehabilitation services of spinal related automobile and work injuries.  He works with the allied health care community instead of against it. This offers the auto accident victim the best care available.”

“What You Need to Know If
You've Been Injured In A Car Accident”

Osteoarthritis can cause the discs in your spine to degenerate and create scar tissue formation leading to chronic stiffness and the inability to move properly. When this happens, simple tasks like turning your neck become painful and almost impossible.

Most Doctors Are Not Trained In The Detection Of These Hidden Injuries... And That's A Fact!

The American Medical Association has been quite clear in stating that current medical doctors do not get enough training in these types of injuries. Their own findings revealed that82% of medical graduates examined failed to demonstrate basic competency in musculo-skeletal medicine… and it is reasonable to conclude that medical school preparation in musculo-skeletal medicine is inadequate. (American Medical Association House of Delegates Resolution 310 (A-03)).
